Caribbean Day with “African Flavor” is a family focus festival with an educational component. The goal of the festival is to raise awareness to the Canadian community on the Caribbean and African History and Culture and also to unite the Caribbean and African community through educating both communities of the link between them by exploring their historical past.
One of the prime objectives would be to begin to create an atmosphere of support and collaboration, understanding and respect for each other. We want to truly share and stand behind one another and for our youths to understand our common heritage and to reflect on their recent histories and their origins.
The 2nd Annual Caribbean Day with “African Flavor” will feature:
• Short educational/informative presentations on
Social/Economic/Political/ Geography/Business/Tourism
of Africa and the Caribbean.
• Arts, foods, music (Live entertainment, local Artists, DJs, Steel
Drums performers), Fashion, Sporting events, Face painting,
Midway Family fun park, Vendor’s Exhibition and Cultural
Dances.
• Representation of African communities by their leaders and or
by diplomatic staff.
• Networking between Caribbean & African Entrepreneurs and
public figures.
• Efforts towards raising awareness of the benefits in patronizing
businesses managed by Caribbean and African entrepreneurs
and more...
The community organizations focus on having the youths participate in positive directions; this Caribbean Day Celebration will also bring people, businesses and communities together, to invest time and making quality contribution to the programs which will benefit the Caribbean, African and Wider Canadian communities, in as many ways possible.
The Caribbean and African community in Ottawa require encouragement in seeing their similarities as oppose to their differences. At this festival, we strive to educate both communities through a play, educational displays that speak on the history and aspects of the various Islands in the Caribbean and countries in Africa. As well as seeking ways for the attendees to the event to start research on their past.
We will also explore ways of educating the Ottawa community as a whole on the over 25 Islands in the Caribbean as well as the over 50 countries in Africa.
Caribbean Day with African Flavor is not just a festival but a starting point to uniting Ottawa’s Increasingly Diverse Community through arts, sports, language, music, fun, food, culture, history and laughter, as it is unique to that area.
